A Muʻu in Time

A Muʻu in Time, an exhibit in celebration of Muʻumuʻu Month, featured the private collection of vintage muʻu and dress on loan from Michele Zane Faridi and Shadi Faridi of Hana Hou Hilo. Dresses date from the 1930s to present day.

March 2023

Light & Shadow

Juried by Steven Garon and Wayne Levin, Light & Shadow featured works of 50 artists from Hawaiʻi and the United States all in black and white photography. Exhibited at Wailoa Center in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, from March 3 - 30, 2023.

Curated by Nelson and Kainoa Mākua of Nā Maukua Designs, MANA 2023 presents Hawai‘i’s premier artists sharing their mana‘o and mana with their art.

10x10x10 Artists Challenge

Artists are challenged to stretch their imaginations and creativity with 10 set materials and a set installation space. Originally 10 artists, 10 spaces and 10 materials, the 2023 10x10x10 featured 4 new artists and 14 allumni.

MidSummer Art Celebration

The 6th Annual MidSummer Art Celebration highlighted the contemporary works of Hawai'i artists. This year’s exhibit featured over 100 works from 65 Hawaiʻi artists selected by juror, Carl F. K. Pao. 

July 2023

In the Time of Climate Change

A collaboration with the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Art Department, this international juried exhibition  asked artists to visualize the state of the planet and existential crossroad confronting local communities and nations of the world. Juried by Diné artist and designer, Jared Yazzie of OXDX Clothing.

August - September 2023

13th Annual Abstract Only!

The 13th Annual Abstract Only was a multimedia juried exhibition celebrating abstract art. Juried by Ming Li Jiang, the 2023 Abstract Only included works from 73 artists from Hawaiʻi and across the United States. Artwork is non-representational; no recognizable figures, objects etc. Works focus on technique, color, composition, and mood.

Hana No Ke Au Hou

Hana No Ke Au Hou celebrated the traditions and craftmanship of Hawaiʻi arts or hana noʻeau. These practices live and breathe in Hawaiʻi due to many of the exhibiting practitioners and their teachers. This exhibit celebrates the traditions passed down, those reignited and the weaving of their presence into our modern world.

November - December 2023

15th Annual Hawai'i Nei

Hawaiʻi Nei is a multi-media, juried art exhibition celebrating the native flora and fauna of Hawai‘i Island hosted by the Three Mountain Alliance, the Hawai‘i Island Art Alliance, the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife and the Wailoa Center. Artists of all ages were invited to submit works of art highlighting the native plants, animals, and habitats of our beloved island, our Hawai‘i Nei.
