Join us in celebration of the opening of the Hala Exhibition. This collaborative project brings together contemporary artists, cultural practitioners, natural resource managers, and scientists to envision hopeful futures embracing both ecological and cultural resilience.

Learn about this 14 month project that brings together contemporary artists, cultural practitioners, natural resource managers, and scientists, all celebrating the cultural significance and ecological importance of the hala plant (Pandanus tectorius) in Hawai’i.

This is a 4 classes workshop -2 hours each day -
Course will cover use of materials, techniques and composition. Students will start with color exercises and a step-by-step introduction to painting.
Figure Drawing Diversity
An Understanding of Māhū, Trans and Third Gender Drawings
Saturday, June 7
10am - 2 pm
This workshop invites artists to explore the dynamic interplay of the human form by working with Māhū and third gender models. The session will challenge traditional notions of gendered representation in art, encouraging participants to observe and capture the authentic masculine and/or feminine qualities within a single figure.

Develop a deeper connection with the model, enhancing observational and interpretative skills.

Gain a better understanding of various drawing materials and how to use them effectively.

Improve fluidity and confidence in handling drawing tools to create expressive, dynamic lines.

Youth Mosaic Class
For Ages 10 and up!
Thursdays,
June 5, 12, 19 & July 3, 10. 17
10:00 - 11:45 am
Create a captivating mosaic from a slab of clay. The dimensions of the mosaic will be approximately 10 inches by 11 inches.
During the six week sessions, as you are making your mosaic, the classic processes of making mosaics will be discussed during the sessions.
You will also learn about thriving times of the Shinmachi area, the memorial dedicated to the lives lost in the 1946 tsunami that sapped it off the map and is where the Wailoa Art Center stands today.
