Annual Bonsai Exhibit
June 26 - 27
9am - 4pm
The Hilo Bonsai Kyoshitsu cordially invites the public to its annual bonsai exhibit. For this two-day exhibit, the gallery is transformed with the lush greenery of bonsai in a variety of styles and species.
The term “bonsai” is formed from two words: “bon” meaning a tray or dish and “sai” meaning tree or plant symbolizing peace, harmony and good fortune. It originated in China and was later introduced to Japan.
Bonsai represents an ideal beauty in miniature not a dwarf version of a natural tree. Instead, bonsai represent an ideal beauty created in a planter on the basis of the emotion caused by an impressive or fine natural landscape.
Some bonsai have shapes no tree in nature could ever approach, but they still impressively remind us of the beauty of nature.
There will be bonsai demonstrations on June 26 and June 27 at 1 p.m. by bonsai instructors. Demonstrations will be held on the lower level of the Wailoa Center.
There will be no plants to sell, but the public is invited to bring their own plants for a bonsai analysis by club members.
Come and enjoy the variety and beauty of bonsai and talk story with club members.
