This series reflects my continued conversation with my namesake and ancestor 'Ailā'au. 'Ailā'au is the volcano deity prior to the arrival of Pele. This piece represents the process of how water breaks down the lava and is also held by the lava. Makawalu refers to the transference of knowledge.
